Beginning Friday morning, April 14, parents of Greene County Schools bus riders will have access to information about their children’s bus location in real-time.
The district has completed Phase 2 of the Stopfinder app roll out with the installation of GPs devices on route busses. GPS will be enabled on the busses Thursday evening. At that time parents will be able to set up geo alerts for their children’s buses.
District transportation secretary Jill Lamoureux reminds parents that pick up and drop off times shown on the app are approximate, and that weather conditions, traffic/construction, and which students ride on a particular day can impact the actual time. Geo alert notifications will be helpful in giving parents peace of mind should a bus be delayed.
Also, parents of students who have specialized transportation and ride in a school van will not have routing information displayed in the app.
The Stopfinder app has the capability of two-way communication between parents and the transportation department, but that feature will not be enabled for parents at this time. Parents who need to make bus changes should call Lamoureux at 515-386-4168. The transportation department will be able to message parents through the app with any important bus-related messages. Subscribers should turn on the notifications function in their cell phone settings.
